My therapeutic approach is positive, humanistic, and integrative; promotes growth and resilience; and aims to supports clients in gaining insight into their challenges, strengths, relationships, behaviors decisions and mood. Once we develop a deeper understanding of you, your environment and the different systems that impact you, we'll then work on learning new skills and behaviors that can help you overcome challenges like low-self-esteem; increase emotional regulation and resilience; work through overachieving/perfectionism and anxiety; understand and resolve relationship difficulties; heal from family trauma; manage work stressors and more.
I collaborate with my clients to understand the purpose of their behaviors, decrease judgement of themselves and develop actionable and measurable skills to develop personal autonomy and self-efficacy; and resolve complex emotions like guilt, shame and discontent; learn appropriate soothing techniques to decrease impulsivity; and develop assertiveness and effective communication.
My approach is interactive, insight oriented, direct, compassionate and respectful. I believe In understanding the whole persona and how things came to be in order to work towards change. As such, I take time to compassionately learn about past experiences and relationships and how they inform current patterns, behaviors and thought processes. This often includes exploring early memories, talking about family dynamics, and looking at how the individual thinks about these events. The process of therapy is guided by what the client holds as important, goals, and values. Clients benefit from my use of an integrative, directive, solution-focused, mindfulness based and holistic clinical framework. Specifically, I primarily use Solution Focused Therapy, Multicultural Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Motivational Interviewing.
I'll challenge you at times, but will always prioritize honoring your boundaries and keeping you safe and emotionally regulated at all times. You'll experience me as direct, solution-focused, holistic, warm, affirming and compassionate. Whether you are navigating a difficult decision, frustration with work or relationships, want to feel better generally or are seeking to deepen your knowledge of your self and relationships others, I can support you.
I earned a Master of Science in Social work from Howard University and have received my certification to practice mental health counseling under supervision from the Maryland Board of Social Workers.
