Hi there! I’m Tracy LMHC and I go by “The Bad Indian Therapist” on Instagram and TikTok! If you’ve ever felt ostracized by your culture or community, made to feel like you didn’t belong, or didn’t feel like you were “enough”, you’ve come to the right place!

The South Asian diaspora is so diverse, yet current narratives of South Asian Mental Health do not include the experiences of Indo-Caribbean people and those of mixed ancestry. It can be very exclusionary due to anti-Blackness and colorism in South Asian cultures. My therapy office is a safe space to explore these issues more with gentle curiosity. Together, we can discover ways to honor your identity that feel true to YOU. You are still “Brown enough”, regardless of someone else’s standards of what that might be.

I treat shame, guilt, anxiety, low self-esteem, and self-doubt that come from cultural trauma. I use Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), a type of trauma-informed therapy that addresses past traumatic events, current triggers, and future triggers through the use of rapid eye movements (REM). I use this to treat symptoms of PTSD, complex trauma, disordered eating, and panic attacks. I also like to utilize other insight-oriented approaches and CBT to address cultural trauma, including disordered eating and depressive symptoms. I incorporate mindfulness skills and grounding techniques into my work to help you cope between sessions.

As a Brown therapist who comes from an exclusionary, insulated community, I am VERY familiar with those who subscribe to linear mindsets of what a “good Brown girl” should look like. It can feel very easy to believe that everyone in the culture/community thinks this way. But there are also people like me and you who don’t subscribe to this mentality. We exist. So let’s be “bad” together! Email me at therapy@tracylmhc.com or call the number listed on my TBG profile to schedule your free consultation today.

Group Therapy Details

"To be Me: Exploring Desi BiCultural Identity" is a group that will allow those who are South Asian/Mixed South Asian descent to explore cultural barriers to honoring our identity and authenticity. Through consciousness-raising, we will come together to identify common barriers to shame, guilt, and anxiety with being our most genuine selves in our cultures and communities. The goal of this group is to provide a healing space through mutual validation and shared experience, and come up with effective ways to set boundaries and feel more like ourselves without compromising our culture!

This is a small group that will start on Tuesday, 11/01/2022, at 6:30 pm EST. The group will meet every other week for 10 sessions (not including holidays) until February 2023 for 90 minutes. If you are interested in learning more, please email me or call me at the number above.
