Your body and brain want to heal, and here’s the good news…. healing from the impact of trauma and stressful life events is possible.

When we experience trauma or chronic stress, our bodies can get stuck in a fight, flight, freeze or fawn (please and appease) response. This “stuckness” can leave us dysregulated, meaning that we are unable to control or manage our emotional responses.

Dysregulation from trauma and chronic stress can show up in many ways including depression, anxiety, physical pain and sexual dysfunction. It can also show up as:

*Feeling that you’re not good enough or that something is wrong with you.

*Being triggered by people, places, activities, sounds, or emotions.

*Struggles with having healthy relationships.

*Reliving painful past experiences.

*Feeling anxious or fearful, and waiting for “the other shoe to drop”.

*Chronic muscular tension or feeling disconnected from your body.

IT'S EXHAUSTING TO BE STUCK AND YOU WANT TO BE FREE

Somatic (body-based) and brain-based therapies can help you move from dysregulation to regulation through rewiring the brain’s neural pathways and by processing the trauma that is held in your nervous system.

In our work together, we will engage your body and mind to help you understand your symptoms and bring awareness to the particular ways that trauma and chronic stress live in your body. You will learn how to listen to your body and gain tools to help you move from a state of distress to a state of calm. The skills that you learn will not only benefit you now, they will also help you to effectively navigate future stressors.

In addition to strengthening your capacity to manage your emotions, we will use techniques from brain and body-focused therapies, such as Somatic Experiencing, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Brainspotting to process and release the emotional and physical pain that the trauma and chronic stress have caused.
