Description
“It took many years of vomiting up all the filth I’d been taught about myself, and half-believed, before I was able to walk on the earth as though I had a right to be here.”
— James Baldwin
It is an incredibly difficult time to be a human.
Therapy can be a place to process and explore any of the discontent you experience in your day to day life. My approach to therapy stems from the belief that we all deserve supportive space to access and show up as our fullest and most authentic selves. I see my role as your therapist as one where we are co-creating a space for you to build that capacity. I invite thorough exploration of all of the parts of you, with deep care and the belief that an increased sense of self will introduce more choice and empowerment. Together we can re-engage with what may have been accepted as natural and inevitable.
Therapy with me is culturally responsive and relevant. It is trauma-informed and consensual (your comfort and safety are always central, and I will ask your permission at many steps throughout our relationship). I find that this work calls on me to create a bespoke experience that centers your unique needs and desires. My method involves intuitively bringing in the theories and techniques that fit based on your desires and the material that you're bringing in. I work hard to bring my authentic and full self to our sessions because I believe healing happens in genuine connection. As part of these informed approaches, I tend to work with present moment awareness, in both thought and sensation. I am also interested in working with astrology and tarot, at your discretion and interest.
I enjoy working with adults, teens, and relationships/couples, especially BIPOC, and Queer and Trans folks. I wish to walk with you and support you in affirming your power and healing yourself.
In connection and community,
Shyeta
