Hi, my name is Sarah James and I am a licensed mental health counselor. I have worked in the behavioral health industry for eight years, gaining experience in treating clients with mental health and substance abuse disorders. I am a seasoned speaker whose passion for healing and wholeness permeates my lectures and group sessions. I am also a veteran of the United States Air Force and served my Country for 24 years. Armed with this status, I have continued to work well with the military populace---both active duty, dependents, and veterans, helping them to experience a life free from the control of anxiety, depression, and various other mental illnesses and traumas.
I consider counseling to be both my passion and calling. A key component of my counseling approach lies in helping clients to understand their three-dimensional selves and the importance of complete recovery – spirit, soul, and body. Driven by a mission to appropriate and integrate the Word of God freely into psychotherapy, I left the public sector in December 2019 and launched my mental health private practice, Chayil Christian Counseling Services, LLC in 2020---a vision that I’ve long carried since 2013.
Having work experience from an acute psychiatric hospital, a correctional facility, and working in the capacity of clinical directorship at two drug and alcohol rehabilitation facilities, I realized the dire need for therapists to become skilled in integrating treatment for clients who are dual diagnosed. As a dual-diagnosis counselor, I steer clients towards balancing the focus of treatment on BOTH the psychological disorder as well as the substance use disorder. To this end, I have also recently implemented a new program into my practice, Sobriety Wellness Coaching, where I assist clients in attaining and sustaining their sobriety.
I have a Master of Science degree in Counseling and Psychology from Troy University (2014). I enjoy reading, exercising, gardening, and cultivating my relationships with my faith, family and friends.
