The meaning behind PORT Counseling comes from it’s dictionary definition:
port/pȯrt (noun) city, town, or other place where ships load or unload. place along a coast in which ships may take refuge from storms; harbor.
Within the context of the therapeutic process, PORT Counseling is a place where you can take refuge from your stressors. It’s the space for you to unload the unhelpful thoughts and ways of relating with the world around you. It is the setting where you will get to load up on skills and strategies to help you through.
We’re confident that together we can work to help equip you with the necessary tools to help you face and overcome these challenges. Whether you’re struggling with interpersonal relationship issues, depression, or anxiety, it is important that you know you don’t have to be alone in this journey. MORE ABOUT OUR PRACTICE
Our practice space is a calming environment that is cool and soothing. We believe in an inclusive treatment environment that is affirming to all. Our compassionate care team is invested in your success.
Our office is handicap accessible and open for appointments on weekends.
OUR ADVICE TO POTENTIAL CLIENTS
Our advice for someone contemplating treatment is to take one step at a time. Start with the consultation and go from there. Thinking steps ahead often serves to detract from the present moment and thwart efforts to get help. After the phone consultation, clients often feel a sense of relief. They feel that they finally have a space that is their own, and specifically for them.
WHAT TO EXPECT YOUR FIRST APPOINTMENT
Your first appointment will primarily consist of us building a rapport with one another, while also identifying all presenting issues, history, and goals. Not much preparation is needed. Simply come with a degree of openness to share at your own pace.
SMART Recovery w/A Relationship Focus
Clinical Supervision for MSWs
SONJACHARDÉ MIXON, MSW, Life Coach:
My clients are often, but are not limited to, women, people of color, parents (single, married or special needs parents) or other persons who feel unheard, have lost their voice and need support. As a single mother to a special needs child and a woman of color, I am conscious of how the responsibilities and expectations that we (and others) place on ourselves can stifle our growth. During coaching sessions, I create a sincere, unpretentious environment for you to be the real you and say exactly what is on your mind. This exchange allows us to build a relationship where you learn to love and embrace your innate complexity, rather than a version of yourself hidden behind a mask of perfection. As a result, we are able to have fruitful conversations that lead to goals that set you on the road to achieve success that encompasses your whole self.
