At The Expat Therapist, we understand that living in a foreign country can be an exciting and rewarding experience, but it can also come with its own set of challenges. Culture shock, homesickness, adjustment to a new environment, language barriers, loneliness and isolation, relationship challenges, career and work-related stress, trauma and grief related to leaving home, mental health concerns, these are just some of the issues that ex-pats often experience.
As a nationally certified counselor with 20 years of experience, and as someone who has lived in over 35 countries, I understand the unique struggles that ex-pats face. I provide a confidential, safe, and non-judgmental environment for individuals to explore their thoughts and feelings about their experience living abroad. My goal is to help clients gain new perspectives, increase their resilience, and develop the skills necessary to thrive in their new environment.
The services that we provide include support for adjusting to a new culture, coping strategies for homesickness, help with navigating language barriers and communication difficulties, assistance with building a sense of community and connection in a new place, support for maintaining healthy relationships, strategies for managing work-related stress and career transition, help with coping with trauma and grief related to leaving home and mental health support, including treatment for depression and anxiety.
