I specialize in working through anxiety, depression, PTSD and OCD which is caused, exacerbated or maintain by the psychological impact of family-of-origin issues; immigrant family (third culture) experiences and life transitions including marriage/separation/singleness, relocation and career changes.

I administer culturally sensitive assessments throughout the process so that we are able to identify tangible patterns and/or symptoms which we can address, monitor and measure. My practice also includes giving careful examination to somatic (headaches, stomach pain, back paint, etc.) presentations of psychological issues.

Overall my clients learn: to gain a sense of greater control over emotions related to cultural adaptation, culture shock; to identify and address not being "from" or belonging "to" anywhere; behavioral responses to the grief/loss that comes with life transitions; to navigate different expectations for autonomy between parents and adult children; manage triangulation (listening to a family members distress about another family member) and; resolve or heal emotional abuse, neglect and domestic violence.

In sessions, we will explore cultural expectations related to gender, career and marriage; acculturation/assimilation, victimization/survivor issues, addictions, including sex, codependency and eating disorders, and skill development as focus, for assertiveness, leadership, conflict resolution, communication. You'll learn Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Attachment Theory, Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and how to apply them daily for identifying, decreasing and/or resolving relationship, thinking, mood and behavioral patterns and responses. You'll learn mindfulness strategies; how to manage distress; increase assertiveness; define values; gain an ability to tolerate distress and; skills for fulfilling and balanced relationships.

I'm a graduate of The Chicago School of Professional Psychology's Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and credentialed by the Maryland Board of Professional Counselors and Therapists as a Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC).
