Welcome to Maria Diaz, LMHC!
My goal as a therapist is to empower you through the therapeutic process by promoting your mental health and well being. Through therapy I create a space where you feel safe and comfortable while entrusting me as your therapist. I understand that life can be difficult and setbacks can be challenging, with the right support I believe you can get through this. I love helping people live their full potential by leading them on the path to discover hope, meaning and purpose.
My values as a therapist are held on the belief that decisions should be shared and that therapy is collaborative. Clients are empowered to overcome obstacles that have interfered with living a well meaningful life. I use evidence-based practices through a trauma-informed and a person centered approach.
My approach is tailored to meet the diversity of each individual client. I use various evidenced based approaches borrowed and adapted to help my clients. I am culturally sensitive and understand that client's needs vary. My ideal client is motivated to change and prepared to do the work. As an ally I use my professional expertise to help clients accomplish their self identified goals.
I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy, a trauma focused approach. As an EMDR therapist I assume that unhealed trauma is playing a major role in presenting issues and I work with my clients to heal unresolved trauma. I am also trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing, Person Centered Therapy, Mindfulness and other evidence based practices.
I specialize in working with adults who have experienced Complex Trauma, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Anxiety, Depression, difficulty with adjusting to a life altering event and other circumstances that require a safe non judgmental approach.
