When working with me in therapy individuals, families and couples can expect me to be straightforward and honest. They should also expect to be challenged on and to move beyond their current ways of thinking and/or doing things. This will be accomplished through the therapeutic lens of empathy, support, and a call to action. I want my clients to communicate with me openly and honestly, in the manner in which they feel most comfortable. I also want them to provide honest feedback on how they feel about our sessions and their progress. Clients should also know that my approach may sometimes include homework. They may be asked to do some type of activity or task between sessions to prepare for our next session.
One of my favorite quotes is by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. he said “If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.” Dr. King’s quote reminds us that we all have things that we want to accomplish in life. And that everyone’s journey will be different. He challenges us not to become paralyzed by our circumstances or situations, and to find the courage to move forward the best way you know how.
