My therapeutic focus is on relationship issues, anxiety, identity development, family of origin concerns, and transitional periods in life. I enjoy working with adolescents, young adults, adults, and couples. My clinical experience comes from providing therapy to couples, teens & adults in a private practice setting. I am also experienced in providing therapy within a university setting to students seeking to understand themselves and navigate transitional periods in life.
I graduated from North Carolina State University with my M.Ed in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Currently, I am an Associate Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in the state of North Carolina, as well as a National Board Certified Counselor. My work includes reality based, emotionally-focused (EFT) and cognitive-behavioral (CBT) theories and techniques. I utilize reality therapy throughout, focusing our sessions on solving problems and rebuilding connections. We will collaborate using CBT by working to understand thoughts, emotions, beliefs, and behaviors and how we can restructure those that are no longer serving us. This type of therapy can be short-term, as over time, you will learn to transform these patterns on your own. We will use EFT to bring awareness to our emotions and learn coping mechanisms for emotions we don't understand or find unpleasant. We will learn the importance of emotions on our decision making skills and ability to take control of our lives.
Life can get challenging and when things get hard, many of us seek comfort in support and solace. As your therapist and guide, I look forward to providing you a safe, non-judgmental, and empathetic space as you endure, cope, reflect, and emerge. As your co-collaborator in therapy, I am dedicated to accepting you as you are and will strive to provide you with unconditional positive regard. My ultimate hope is that you can see yourself as someone who is worthy of love and belonging, just as I do.
While my passions in life are to provide therapy and better understand human interactions, I am also quite fond of connecting with family and friends, reading a good book, snuggling with my dog, eating delicious food, volunteering at various local organizations, and practicing the art of yoga.
