Description
Hello, I am LaToya J. Johnson a NYS Licensed Mental Health Counselor with over 20 years of counseling experience. I earned my Bachelors Degree in Psychology with a minor in Sociology from Mount St. Mary’s College in 2003. I graduated with my Masters Degree in Psychology from Marist College in 2006.
Each of us despite who we are, where we were born, what we have or what we do not have, still deserve to have a rewarding life. If I can be used as an instrument towards helping any individual along their path to a rewarding life than that is a journey that I wish to be a part of.
I believe that every person has a right to live a happy and fulfilled life. My role as your therapist is to assist you in making progress towards your definition of what fulfillment means in your life. My goal is to create an atmosphere of trust and acceptance where I can assist you on your journey to the process of self-acceptance, emotional stability and/or behavioral changes you desire.
I have been a “helper” for as long as I can remember, so my passion for mental health counseling comes as a surprise to no one. I have an extensive background in utilizing a variety of therapies including but not limited to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Person Center Therapy, and Mindfulness.
It is my belief that there is no one therapeutic method that will work for every individual in every situation, so I employ a variety of theoretical approaches to meet the emotional, mental, physical, social, spiritual, career, and/or economic needs of my clients. I can provide both therapy and assessment services for adolescents, young adults, individuals, and families using an integrated approach specific to the unique needs of each client.
Since 2003, I have worked in a variety of settings and with a culturally diverse client base, for long-term therapy as well as brief crisis interventions. I have provided care to individuals with chronic mental illnesses including bipolar disorder, major depressive disorder, schizophrenia, anxiety, PTSD, racial identity issues, relationship concerns intellectual disabilities, and substance abuse. Additionally, I have provided counseling service for individuals and families in situational crisis.
If I can be of assistance in an area of concern in your life, please feel free to schedule your first appointment.
