I am an art therapist trained in traditional talk therapy, EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing, often used in treating trauma) and creative arts therapy (which uses art to express hard to access thoughts and feelings).
As a teen, art was a guiding force in my life, having used art for my own personal well-being and having worked at the Metropolitan Museum of Art through my teen years and into adulthood; I instinctually knew artistic expression was a powerful tool. When I learned of the art therapy profession I knew that I would become an art psychotherapist.
I work together with adults, adolescents and children who seek to develop and implement tools in coping with stressors, managing anxiety, depression, trauma and navigating through periods of transition. I utilize art psychotherapy and EMDR to integrate mind and body, explore emotions, express thoughts and feelings.
Being a women of color, of Caribbean, West Indian decent and a first generation American, I often can relate to those coping with acculturation while also offering a broad range of mental health services.
