Kala is a Licensed Professional Counselor Intern, pursuing a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Liberty University. She is an experienced Elementary Behavior Specialist, and has a background in Child and Adolescent Development. Kala specializes in de-escalation strategies, coping skills, social skills, therapeutic recreation and self-advocacy for children with anxiety, trauma, ADHD, ODD, Autism, Down Syndrome and children in foster care. She also leads parenting groups for families with children who have disabilities.
Kala obtained her bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation from Eastern Washington University. After graduation, she began working in Special Education classrooms with children with an array of disabilities. She returned to school to obtain her Master of Arts in Sports Management and Administration, where she was able to combine her passion for youth, recreation and education into a job with the Charlotte Hornets.
Kala enjoys playing Women’s Rugby, spending time with her dog, hiking; and finds anything outdoors to be therapeutic.
