For the past 15 years I have served as an educator, coach, mentor, clinician and counselor, which has led me to pursue my career as a Licensed Professional Counselor. I began my career as a teacher in Klein ISD after receiving both my BS in criminal justice (2004) and my MA in Math Education (2007) from Texas Woman’s University. My experience as a classroom teacher and coach fostered my interest in mental health which inspired me to obtain an additional MA from Prairie View A&M University in both School and Professional Counseling.
For the latter part of my career I have worked as a school counselor within Klein ISD, as well as a clinician within local behavioral hospitals. Although these experiences vary in duties and levels of severity, the tools for success are one in the same – empathy, support, and unconditional positive regard. In my profession I enjoy working with adolescents, adults, families, and multiple groups, and have treated a wide range of issues and disorders, such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, grief, mood disorders, trauma, suicidal ideation, self-esteem, educational planning, learning disabilities and crisis intervention.
My approach to counseling is both integrative and holistic, as I use a variety of behavioral techniques and theoretical components that are uniquely structured based on the individual needs of each client. When appropriate, I also like to incorporate various forms of activity therapy that include walking, yoga, and artistic expression to help engage my clients.
It is my goal to help create a safe place for clients to grow and discover the joy of living, whatever that may be.
