Description

I am a clinical psychologist who specializes in providing evidence-based assessment & treatment services to children, adolescents, and adults for the following concerns:

(1) attention problems and school/learning difficulties;
(2) fear, worry, and distress;
(3) grief and loss;
(4) adverse/traumatic experiences; and
(5) stressful life transitions (e.g., adjusting to a new school, job transfers, emerging adulthood concerns, parenthood concerns, etc.).

My practice is based on compassion and respect. I approach clinical work with great sensitivity to the context in which my clients live and are expected to navigate. I aim to understand internal and external factors (often factors beyond our control) that shape and influence our functioning and self-concept. My clinical approach is enhanced greatly by Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Behavioral Therapy treatment modalities.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) focuses on the ways behaviors, thoughts, and feelings/emotions are interconnected. CBT is goal-oriented and focuses on learning specific emotional/behavioral skills to resolve present-day problems.

Behavioral Therapy focuses on understanding how problematic thoughts or negative behaviors may unknowingly or unintentionally get “rewarded” within the environment. Unfortunately, these rewards/reinforcements can lead to an increase in the frequency of undesirable thoughts and behaviors.

I am committed to creating a supportive environment where my clients can face life's challenges unapologetically. I encourage my clients to accomplish their goals with clarity and a renewed sense of purpose.

I have worked with children and adults for the past 17 years in outpatient, inpatient, residential, and academic settings. I earned my Bachelor of Science in Psychology and African American Studies from Florida A&M University (FAMU). I earned my Master of Science and Doctorate of Philosophy in Clinical Psychology from the University of Central Florida (UCF). I completed my clinical internship at the University of Mississippi Psychology Residency Training Program, a consortium between the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMC) and G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center.

I am passionate about community engagement and servant leadership. I love family time, small towns, and food tours/festivals.
