Welcome to Core Values Psychotherapy! I'm Jazmine Barnes, a licensed psychotherapist. This message is for the ones who feel like they have to brave life's waves on their own. The ones who feel like they can't talk about their struggles because they don't want to be a "burden". This is for the ones who feel at a loss and don't know what to do next. The ones who feel disconnected or unsure. Let me ask you this... are you also feeling overwhelmed, lonely, or out-of-sorts? Feeling like you have to put on a face to show that you have it all together? Are "small" things setting you off? Do you feel sadness or anxiety from past experiences or current events? Not feeling heard, seen, or understood? Maybe it’s hard to even pinpoint?

This is where I come in. Asking for help can be hard. You may be worried that you’ll have to feel feelings or re-live traumas you’ve worked hard to avoid. While I can’t promise that therapy will be easy, I can promise that I will provide you with a safe space, inclusive and free of judgment, where I will help you learn to slowly approach and process what is hard for you to hold on your own.

I create real connections with my clients that help them feel safe to explore the past, be in the present, and work towards a brighter future. I help you uncover and face negative patterns or beliefs that may be holding you back (subconsciously and/or consciously). There is hope!

I take an integrative approach to treatment that include Person-Centered Therapy, Strength-Based, Radically-Open Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (RO-DBT), Culturally Sensitive Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma Focused-CBT, Mindfulness-CBT, Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) and Solution Focused Therapy. I love to pull from a variety of options to tailor treatment specifically for my client.

A path forward, towards a life you want to live, does exist. In our sessions we’ll navigate your challenges and define what feeling better looks like for you. Therapy is different for everyone, so I work with you to individualize a productive plan that helps you to take the steps to have a more balanced life and to live more self-assured. Let’s get started!

MORE ON RO-DBT SPECIALTY:
Are you someone who feels like they are doing everything "right"—but inside, it feels rigid, exhausting, or lonely?

I specialize in working with individuals who struggle with overcontrol—a pattern often rooted in high standards, emotional inhibition, and difficulty connecting with others. While this can look like perfectionism, it often runs deeper, impacting relationships, flexibility, and your ability to fully relax or feel connected.

My work is grounded in Radically Open Dialectical Behavior Therapy (RO-DBT), an evidence-based approach designed specifically for people who tend toward overcontrol. This approach is especially helpful for those who are looking for more than traditional talk therapy. RO-DBT is skills-based and experiential, meaning we actively work on building new ways of responding—focusing on openness, flexibility, and authentic connection in real time, not just insight.

My approach is shaped by both professional training and lived experience. Growing up in a structured, high-expectation environment within a military family, I understand how self-discipline and emotional control can become second nature—and how hard it can be to turn that off.

Therapy with me isn’t about fixing you—it’s about helping you step out of rigid patterns and into a life that feels more open, authentic, and connected.

If you’re ready for real change—not just insight—I’d love to work with you.
