Description
Hey y'all! My name is Gwen (she/her) and I am a Licensed Social Worker and Chicago Native. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Social Work from Northeastern Illinois University and my Master of Social Work, specializing in mental health from Loyola University Chicago.
When I am not building the therapeutic alliance with clients in session, I am working diligently at one of the nation’s largest breast cancer organizations where I support in achieving health equity for Women of Color living with breast cancer. I also teach and mentor bachelor level students at Northeastern Illinois University.
It is an honor you have considered me to aid in your healing journey. I use several therapeutic modalities based on assessment and presenting needs of my clients. However, during our time together, you can expect accountability, collaboration, and authenticity.
An advocate and ally for the LGBTQIA+ community, I have a decade of experience providing client centered case management and group level facilitation. I am extremely passionate about uplifting the voices of female identified persons and bridging the gap between Black cis and women of trans experience.
In the continuous battle of decreasing stigma within the Black community surrounding mental health and therapy, I provide a safe and educational environment for all clients. How many times have you been told to “just pray about it?” Let’s heal and de-stigmatize mental health in the African- American community together, one session at a time.
