Description

Greetings, I am Dr. Jamilah Jones. I am a licensed mental health clinician in New Jersey. I have almost 20 years of experience in the mental health and education field. I obtained a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision, Masters in School Counseling, and a Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Contemporary Mental Health from Capella University. Prior to obtaining my Master's, I obtained my Bachelor's degree in Family and Consumer Science from Morgan State University.
It was during that time I recognized my passion for wanting to assist individuals of all capacities. My passion drove me to work with individuals on setting goals for themselves, while collectively working with them to produce lasting results. Over the years, I expanded my skills and experience by working in various settings including: private practice, drug and alcohol residential programs, group homes, diagnostic centers, public middle and high schools, college, and university. Being employed in the mentioned settings have increased my skills working with the following populations:

· Individuals suffering from drug and alcohol abuse
· Ex-offenders
· At-risk youth
· Individuals of loved ones who are incarcerated
· Individuals who are changing careers
· LGBTQIA+
· Families experiencing major conflicts
· Suicidal ideation
· Grieving individuals
· Special education and gifted students

My skills along with my relatable personality and empathetic attitude permit me to foster a relationship with each of my clients. One of the key factors to beginning your healing journey with a new therapist is building a connection in order to trust your therapist. Trust leads to vulnerability, encouraging you to share your innermost thoughts and concerns. I am aware of how challenging this may be, but I am here to support you in the most non-judgmental but honest way possible. I derive great satisfaction from seeing others take positive STEPS towards the direction of success, including witnessing you strive in your healing journey.
