Description
Anxiety, Emotional Exhaustion, and Trauma Recovery for High-Functioning Black Women
Hi, I’m Dr. Glenna!
You can be capable, accomplished, and still feel emotionally overwhelmed. Many of the women I work with are high-functioning and dependable — often the ones others rely on — yet privately struggle with anxiety, emotional exhaustion, relationship wounds, or the long-term impact of emotional abuse.
I provide therapy for Black women who are ready to slow down, feel supported, and begin healing in a way that doesn’t require them to fall apart, over-explain, or minimize their experiences.
I specialize in supporting Black women who may be navigating:
Chronic anxiety, overthinking, or mental exhaustion
Emotional abuse or confusing relationship dynamics
High-functioning burnout and difficulty resting
Hyper-independence and feeling responsible for everything
Emotional numbness or feeling disconnected from themselves
Many of my clients come to therapy saying, “I don’t know why I feel this way — I just know I’m tired.”
You don’t need the perfect words to begin.
My work is trauma-informed, relational, and culturally responsive. I focus on creating emotional safety first — because healing happens best when your nervous system feels supported, not rushed.
I am a trained EMDR therapist, which means I help clients process distressing or overwhelming experiences in a way that works with both the brain and the body. EMDR can be especially helpful for high-functioning women who feel “stuck,” emotionally reactive, or exhausted from constantly managing their thoughts and emotions.
Unlike traditional talk therapy alone, EMDR does not require you to repeatedly relive or explain painful experiences. Instead, it allows us to gently address what your body has been holding onto — often leading to relief, clarity, and a greater sense of calm.
Sessions are collaborative, paced, and grounded in care. You remain in control throughout the process, and we move at a speed that feels respectful and manageable.
In our work together, we may focus on:
Reducing anxiety and emotional overwhelm
Processing emotional abuse and relational trauma
Increasing emotional regulation and nervous system safety
Understanding patterns shaped by early experiences
Learning how to rest, set boundaries, and soften without guilt
Therapy is not about fixing you — it’s about helping you understand yourself with compassion and clarity.
Many Black women have learned to be strong, private, and self-sufficient out of necessity. I understand how cultural expectations around strength and resilience can make therapy feel unfamiliar or uncomfortable.
You do not have to educate me on your lived experience, justify your pain, or prove that what you’ve been through “counts.” This is a space where you are allowed to be human — not perform strength.
I am currently accepting new therapy clients and offer individual therapy to adults residing in California.
If you’re feeling curious, hesitant, or unsure whether therapy is right for you, I invite you to reach out to schedule a consultation. Curiosity is enough to begin.
