Description

My expertise centers on understanding the influence that thoughts, feelings, and behavior have on each other and on overall (mind and body) well-being. Specific issues I support cleitns through include grief, life transitions, psychological impact of having a family memeber (or yourself) who is or has been incarcerated, college and grad school stress, pressure from family and society that causes stress, ADHD and related attention issues, overwhelming self doubt, frequent and debilitating worry, sadness and mood changes and more. I provide mental health counseling to help teens and adults identify triggers and develop long-term coping skills to manage behavioral, cognitive and emotional challenges that affect relationships, day-to-day functioning and self-esteem. I also work with individuals who are just looking for space to process things without judgement, interruption or excessive feedback and interruptions.

I use Cognitive Behavioral therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) to help clients who have trouble handling strong emotions and whose thought patterns cause distress, low moods and undesired behaviors. ACT is mindfulness based and helps my client create a  meaningful and rich life, while accepting the unavoidable hardships that inevitably come. DBT helps clients create healthy relationships — with respectful boundaries and trust; teaches coping skills for emotional pain and challenging situations; instills skills and strategies to manage and regulate intense emotions; improves positives emotions; and teaches skills to develop assertiveness and an ability to communicate your needs clearly and set healthy boundaries.

Above all, my clients develop an ability to have compassion for themselves while also working towards change or learning to accept their limitations.

I serve the individual who needs someone who  is directive, engaging, calm, trauma focused and solution oriented and can hold space for his/her/their family dynamics, cultural complexity, development stage and needs.

I work with each client to complete a comprehensive diagnostic evaluation and treatment plan/goals in order to develop a detailed plan alongside the client based on the client's individual needs.

I provide individual therapy online and in-person to residents of Maryland, Washington, DC..

I am a Clinical Mental Health Counseling trainee who practices under the supervision of Barbara Adika, LCPC, LPC. My rate is $75 without insurance.
