I am Carl Winton and I am a graduate of Alder University where I obtained my master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I’m currently on a journey to achieve my Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision, and in this area I plan to teach at a higher level while also using my time and skillset to supervise and pour into future counselors so they can continue to grow and develop within the field of mental health. Being an African American male in the field of mental health, I know just how important representation is, which is why I have made it my mission to change the negative stigmas behind mental health and provide future clinicians with tools to become more self-aware.
When an individual decides to embark on the path to healing, they must understand that they possess the skills and mindset needed to become the best versions of themselves. As your therapist, I desire to provide you with a safe space to ensure that you have the ability to express your inner thoughts and emotions. Taking the time to understand that you are capable and worthy of healing, is one of the first steps to finding inner peace. I am a firm believer that therapy can be beneficial to everyone who goes into sessions with honesty and pure intentions. Once a person has begun the process of taking care of their mental health it will give them the courage and confidence to be self-efficient in all areas of their lives. In therapeutic sessions we will actively work on making sure we are growing and improving the areas in your life that you find are in need of attention. Therapy is a team effort between both the client and the therapist, and when both are actively working towards change, negative behaviors and cycles are broken. Many of us have survived some of our worse days, so we must understand that there is nothing we can’t overcome with the proper care and support.
