Description

Dr. Brittany Tarrant was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland to a family who encouraged her to follow her dreams – even if that meant humoring a 5-year-old who exclaimed that she would be a doctor one day. Dr. Tarrant went on to complete her undergraduate degree in Psychology at the University of Maryland, College Park. There, she discovered her love for the human brain and mental health and knew that psychiatry would be a great fit. She completed her master’s degree at Georgetown University and then her Doctor of Medicine degree at Howard University College of Medicine in Washington, D.C. She then set her sights on the sunny skies and warm weather here in Los Angeles and completed her general adult psychiatric training at UCLA.
Dr. Tarrant is a board-certified adult psychiatrist trained at UCLA Semel Institute for Neuroscience & Human Behavior and Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital. She is completing her last year of training as a child and adolescent psychiatry fellow at UCLA, where she currently serves as co-chief. Dr. Tarrant is passionate about mental health and treating those who are often overlooked and forgotten in our society.

Her clinical interests include treating a wide range of psychopathologies including psychotic and mood disorders, trauma, and special populations including people of color, women, children and young adults, gender and sexual minorities, veterans, and individuals involved in welfare and criminal legal systems. She is dedicated to advancing the field of psychiatry through compassionate, thoughtful, and culturally humble care while working to eliminate barriers to accessing care and de-stigmatizing mental illness. Dr. Tarrant is thoughtful about the necessity for psychiatric medications and will work closely with you to provide treatment that aligns with your values, holistically. Dr. Tarrant loves collaborative care and champions psychotherapy in addition to medication management.

Outside of clinical work, Dr. Tarrant is involved in teaching, mentorship, community outreach, and various leadership positions. She is dedicated to creating spaces of healing and inclusion and has been engaged in diversity, equity, and inclusion work at UCLA and beyond. When not at work, you can find her enjoying a relaxing day with family and friends, exploring the local food scene, or traveling near and far.
