About my practice and my approach:
Hyde Park Counseling & Therapy is rooted in a wellness model & strength based philosophy. As a therapist,I strive to promote peace & authenticity within the self. I provide an environment & process to facilitate clients in the journey of self-exploration, self-education, & personal growth. My therapeutic work is wellness based and integrative in nature. My orientation is rooted in a Humanistic, Experiential, and Narrative theoretical frame. In addition to this framework other traditional or non-traditional techniques are often employed. These may include include: Cognitive behavioral therapy, somatic (mind/body) therapies, visualization, breath-work, and energy based techniques (if requested). I treat mental health issues ranging from mild stressors to traumatic or severe conditions. I work to help each client alleviate his or her discomfort no matter how acute or chronic.
I have an extensive background rendering crisis counseling to individuals who may have suffered from major trauma or onset of overwhelming circumstances, such as loss of a loved one, assault, loss of home or job, or onset of new mental health diagnosis.
While I have tremendous skill & background in many facets of mental healthcare with various populations (adults, elderly, children & adolescents), from various functioning levels, I have special interest in working with the child & adolescent population & in facilitating healthy development. I enjoy working with career exploration, life adjustment issues/ transitions, conflict resolution skills.
