Description
Life can feel extremely overwhelming at times. Maybe you are a teen trying to navigate the stress of schoolwork, making friends, and managing painful emotions. Such struggles can lead to feelings of self-doubt, loneliness, and frustration. I am here for you. Or, maybe you are the parent trying to assist your teen through such difficult times and you are struggling to identify how to respond, resulting in high levels of stress and fear. I am here for you. Challenges can take so many forms: extremely painful emotions, life transitions such as graduating from college or getting a divorce; past experiences that impact how you think and feel in the present… the list goes on. I am here for you. Whether wanting to work individually or as a family unit, I would love to assist you in navigating the stressors and resolving the painful emotions that block your ability to feel at peace with your world and experience joy in your day-to-day life.
I am Angela Acosta, a trauma-informed therapist. I have been practicing in the counseling field for over 15 years. I graduated from Illinois Institute of Technology with a MS in Rehabilitation Counseling. I am also a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) and Registered Co-Occurring Substance Use Disorder Professional II (CODP II). My experience includes working with individuals with anxiety, depression, relationship issues, grief and loss, parenting issues, adjusting to major life changes, bullying issues, self-esteem, and feelings of low self-worth. I believe that life is a daily learning process. One must be able to learn from the unique challenges that shape today. As we work together, you will learn how to cope with these challenges and focus on enjoying your purpose.
My counseling style is warm, sensitive, compassionate, and holistic. I use an integrated approach to counseling tailored to fit the client's needs as they arise. I use approaches such as Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Dialectal Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness Therapy, Humanistic Therapy, Solutions-Focused approach, Motivational Interviewing, Psychodynamic and insight-oriented therapies. These clinical approaches can support individuals with learning tools and strategies to overcome life’s challenges.
I believe trust, honesty and respect in the counseling relationship are the most important vehicles toward self-awareness, change, and reaching your goals. Clients possess the power to become "unstuck"; I am simply a supportive guide and facilitator in that journey. I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs.
Congratulations on taking a courageous step towards striving to overcoming your challenges, and creating a fulfilled, meaningful life. I look forward to partnering with you!
