Description

The therapeutic relationship is a sacred interpersonal bond built on trust. Together, we will co-create this safe space so you can overcome any obstacles you may be facing in your life right now. As a Black psychotherapist, I approach my work using an anti-oppressive social justice lens for over 20 years. This practice enables us to come to a deeper understanding of how our environment impacts us as individuals, families, and communities, e.g., we may explore anything from the trickle-down effect of micro-aggressive workplace behavior that causes you to stress to the negative impact of mainstream media violence on Black children.
Over the past twenty years, I have helped adults and families in crisis. I'm licensed in both New York and New Jersey. I have a unique insight into the socio-emotional dynamics of performing artists and a deep insight into HBCU culture, the Historical Black-Greek Letter Organization Culture.
Specific treatment modalities range from Psychodynamic therapy, Talk Therapy, CBT, and Compassionate Therapy to trauma-focused care. I center your unique story in my work, drawing on my own experiences as an African American woman of color, wife, parent of two, and artist when appropriate. For instance, my personal experience as an artist informs my understanding of anxiety's hidden complexities within this population. Regardless of what is coming up for you, I use a strengths-based approach to help you access your innate human capacity for resilience. As a Life coach, I offer a more action-oriented process in sessions. Through the process of self-discovery, you the client become the co-creator of the pathway towards transformation. Each Life Coach Session is bi-weekly.
