Description

Dr. Talia Abreu is a Psychologist at Del Ray Psych and Wellness, LLC. She strives to create a warm and welcoming environment to facilitate processing in a safe, collaborative manner. She believes that therapy is a space for meaningful exploration and growth, and she’s honored to walk alongside clients as they work toward healing and self-understanding.

Dr. Abreu is passionate about providing culturally sensitive care and is especially attuned to the needs of clients with marginalized identities. Culture shapes so much of who we are and how we approach our mental health. As a first-generation Caribbean-American of Jamaican and Dominican descent and someone who identifies as a “third-culture kid,” Dr. Abreu brings a nuanced perspective to the ways culture and identity shape our mental health and healing.

She has recently completed training at the Veterans’ Affairs Medical Center where she specialized in trauma-focused treatment and women’s health. Additionally, Dr. Abreu has a niche interest in addressing systemic racism and social injustice, and processing Black trauma.

Her approach to therapy is holistic and integrative, drawing from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Therapies, psychodynamic and humanistic frameworks, and somatic techniques such as EMDR. Additionally, Dr. Abreu provides adult mental health assessments (for diagnostic clarification) and ADHD testing and evaluations.

In her free time, Dr. Abreu likes to try new foods, take dance classes, travel, and check out museums/art installations. She is originally from the Bronx, NY.
