In my more than a decade of counseling, I’ve frequently heard, “you’re the first person i’ve ever told that too” or “I’ve been too afraid to admit that until now”. It is after these freeing moments that the real work begins. One of the best things about counseling is that it provides a safe place where the truth can be told! If you are afraid to speak your truth, to be honest about your feelings, or to just keep it real, it impedes the healing process. I know that sometimes the support people really need doesn’t feel warm and fuzzy. I like asking the hard questions, guiding my clients through having the hard conversations, and motivating them to make the hard decisions. The truth can be hard but it is also extremely freeing!!
Promise to always tell me the truth and I’ll promise to do the same. Then we can work together toward finding the freedom and the life you deserve.
