Description

Our relationship to work and labor as Black people is distinct from other cultural groups. “You have to work twice as hard, to get what they have,” – sounds familiar doesn’t it? So many of us have internalized messages that overworking is the only way we can achieve happiness, peace & stability. So many of us even take on leadership roles, with those internalized beliefs in the driver seat. Where do these beliefs even come from? Who were some of our earliest, and/or persistent models for labor, care, & rest? What can life look like if care was at the foundation of our lives, as opposed to an afterthought? Whether you’re the overworked executive director of a company, a tired parent, and/or the “responsible” eldest sibling (or all the above!) life may be screaming at you to finally start prioritizing your wellbeing.

I’m Andra, and I am a therapist that helps my clients to unpack these types of questions in meaningful ways. Our work together can help you to stop overworking in your environments & relationships, so that you can lead a life that centers care. We all deserve a space to reimagine & reconnect with love, joy & rest in creative, radical ways.

Sessions typically start with taking the time to understand the unconscious motivations behind your relationship to labor, and overworking from a culturally sensitive, social justice lens. I ensure that systemic factors are always being considered. Then, we typically transition into creating tangible action steps. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization Therapy (EMDR), which can help you to address past emotional injuries & release the hold that these experiences may have on you in actionable ways. EMDR provides you with a better understanding of yourself, and tools that you can use on a daily basis. Regardless of the technique, my approach is deeply creative, and collaborative in nature; you get to set the pace at a rhythm that feels good to you.
